After spending years in the shadows of former multiple time champion Ezekiel Kemboi, Conseslus Kipruto is now the athlete to beat in the 3000 Meters Steeplechase race where he holds the Olympic record of 8mins 03. 28 seconds.

The 2017 SOYA Sportsman of the Year is now focused on bagging another Gold medal in a major competition in a span of three years, when he lines up along compatriots Amos Kirui and Abraham Kibiwott in this year’s edition of the Commonwealth Games.

In the Women’s category, Purity Cherotich will be out to defend her title in this year’s games, lining up alongside Fancy Cherono and Cellephine Chespol.

Meanwhile, 2016 Olympics Bronze medalist Margaret Nyairera will leave nothing to chance as she targets Gold medal in the 800 meters race, a title won by Eunice Sum in Glasgow, Scotland.

Elsewhere, Eva Cherono’s debut in the games in the 5,000 meters category will be a testing experience as she comes up against Margaret Chelimo and an in form Hellen Obiri, who won Gold medal in the World Championships in London, last year.
