Counties decry late disbursement of funds

The government has been urged to initiate all necessary measures and ensure that the first batch of budgetary allocations to county governments is disbursed.

Speaking on the matter Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko said they are hopeful that the government will have by this week started the disbursements to enable respected development initiatives to be rolled in the counties.

“I want to strongly say that the state and the pace of disbursement of funds to counties is appalling and it’s unlawful to withhold funds to counties once the funds have been appropriated. This is something that must be addressed as quickly as possible because counties render very critical services like health and without resources the public health department is unable to understand what is going on and is unable to advise us,” pointed Ochillo.

Ochillo revealed that as the Vice Chairman of Finance and Budgeting Committee they had a meeting last week with the Treasury CS Ukur Yatani  who confirmed to them that it is true that funds disbursement to counties had been delayed for the last three month as he cited measure of economic difficulties and failure for meeting the revenue target collection.

He said the positive news they received from CS Treasury is that anytime in the course of the week that is starting today or next week the monies will be sent to the counties.
