Counties to get additional funds for Universal Health Care

Health Ministry is expected to release an additional 3.9 billion shillings to the four pilot counties for Universal Health Care (UHC). 

Speaking Tuesday when appearing before the Senate’s Health Committee, health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said Kisumu County will receive the lion share of the additional funds of 819 million shillings while Isiolo, Nyeri and Machakos will each receive between 780 million shillings and 800 million shillings to cater for free medication at the level five hospitals.

The CS stated that an additional 500 million shillings will be released to cater for specialized treatment at all level 6 facilities across the country.

The universal health coverage plan is set to be launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta early next month.

Meanwhile,  the CS has been appointed as the National Champion for Immunization by the ARCC of Polio Eradication.

In her new role, she will advocate for improved coverage of immunization services and accelerate efforts towards Polio Eradication in our country.

The African Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) led by the chairperson Prof. Leke paid a courtesy call on the CS Tuesday.

The meeting was to provide feedback on the status of disease surveillance and routine immunization performance in Kenya with regards to polio.
