Residents of remote parts of Isiolo County will now access improved healthcare services, following a donation of medical equipment worth half a million from WEWORLD Organisation under the Drought Resilience in Isiolo County (DRIC) Project that is funded by the European Union.

According to Isiolo County Secretary Dade Boru who received the equipment on behalf of Governor Abdi Guyo, the equipment will go a long way towards improving the quality of healthcare service delivery in healthcare centers especially those in far flung areas of the vast county.

The County Secretary reiterated the County Government Administration’s commitment to work closely with development partners in a bid to ensure that the people of Isiolo access the best possible healthcare services.

The donated equipment includes blood pressure machines, digital weighing scales, Mission plus HB Meter and HB Meter strips. The equipment will be distributed in selected health facilities in the three sub counties of Isiolo, Garbatula and Merti.

Health Centers that will benefit from the equipment include Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital, Bulapesa dispensary, Anti poaching Unit dispensary and GK Prison dispensary in Isiolo sub county. In Garbatula sub county, Garbatula sub county hospital, Sericho health Center, Biliqi health center and Gafarsa dispensary will benefit, while in Merti Sub county, Merti sub county hospital, Goda dispensary, Saleti and Matarba dispensaries will also receive part of the donated equipment.

Isiolo County Coordinator for WEWORLD Organization Bishar Maash who handed over the equipment to the County government, said that the organisation was pleased to support the county department of health especially in the provision of High Impact Maternal and Child health services.

He noted that WEWORLD has been supporting health and nutrition activities in Isiolo County for the past two years, and that they will continue partnering with the devolved government administration to address various challenges in the sector for the betterment of the people of Isiolo County.

CS Boru lauded the move by the organisation to provide the crucial equipment especially to the rural facilities, and appealed to more development partners to come forth and complement efforts by the County government in addressing the challenge of prolonged drought situation that has depleted livestock in the most affected regions of the county, rendering the local pastoralist households extremely poor and reliant on relief food aid for survival. The most affected areas are Sericho, Cherab and Chari wards.
