Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna

Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Ngusya Nguna alias CNN has rallied behind former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in the wake of division within Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Nguna who secured re-election during the 2022 General Elections on Wiper party and key affiliate member of Azimio  said as leaders from Ukambani, they will stand by their party leader in a bid to give him more strength and influence at the national level.
"There might be division within Azimio and especially in constituent member parties like ODM and Jubilee but for us in Wiper we're strongly united behind H.E Kalonzo Musyoka who is indisputably the Kingpin for lower Eastern region. He played a paramount role in the making of One Kenya Alliance which later joined hands with Azimio and he'll be crucial in any key decision making regarding way forward of the opposition" remarked CNN

Nguna,Kathiani MP and Deputy Minority leader Robert Mbui together with their Matungulu counterpart Stephen Mule are considered to be key allies of Mr Musyoka who has in recent occasions vowed to go for Presidency in the future.

Earlier this year, Musyoka who has thrice shelved his presidential ambition for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga said “I am a wiser fool now and I will run like I have never run before” in readiness for the 2027 presidential contest.

“What is obvious in the event we are still around God willing and my party nominates me to run I will run like I have never run before. The fool in me ended up supporting Raila for the third time but that fool is wiser now than he was then. I am no fool. It took some painful introspection to support Raila for the third time and it was the right thing to do,” he said.

His sentiments have been echoed by Nguna who lauds Kalonzo as an astute and statesman politician to have always sacrificed his own personal ambition for the good of Kenya.

"I have interacted with him closely and many times and all I can say is that he's the best President this country can ever have owing to his leadership attributes and personality and we hope God gives us life to get to 2027.I'm sure Baba will reciprocate the overwhelming support he has gotten from Kalonzo and throw his weight behind our leader's state house candidature" added CNN

Kalonzo had prior to the August  vote reiterated  to use what he hoped would be Raila’s crowning moment as a stepping stone to his eventual rise as the next-in-line de facto leader of Azimio. He hoped to ride on this victory to contest for the presidency in 2027.

Pundits argue that Kalonzo must graduate from under the Raila type of politics, forget the kingpin style of politics and forge his own political identity to ensure he amasses support from across the country.

According to IEBC data Kalonzo deliver to Raila approximately 1 million Ukambani votes in the just concluded polls.

In Kitui, Machakos and Makueni counties, Raila managed 769,985 votes while Ruto got 250,188 votes. It is estimated that Kalonzo's support in Ukambani diaspora bases - Embakasi’s in Nairobi, Mathare, Makadara, Starehe and Makadara - pushed this vote to one million.
