A forty-four-year-old man who was arraigned in a
Narok Court for being in possession of 170 kilograms of game meat pleaded
guilty to the charges.
Konene Sordo who appeared before Narok senior magistrate Phyllis Shinyada admitted to have packaged the zebra meat in three nylon sacks and transported it using a SKYGO motorcycle registration number KMFD 377P.
He was arrested by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers at Sepetai area on January 10, 2023 in Narok South Sub County. The court heard that he committed the offense with other people who were not before the court.
The state counsel prosecutor Tito Wanga said the motor cycle had no permit or permission from Director General Kenya Wildlife Service to carry game meat. The meat and the motorcycle were presented in court as exhibits.
After the display of the game meat, the prosecutor asked for permission to photograph the meat and destroy it since it was highly perishable, a request that was granted by the court.
The accused pleaded with the court to release him on bond to seek treatment as he had suffered severe injuries after falling off the speeding motorbike during arrest.
However, the state prosecutor opposed release on bond saying the other culprits were at large and his release could interfere with the investigations.
The magistrate denied the accused bond and instead instructed the police to take him to hospital for treatment.
He will appear again in court on January 23, 2023 when his case will be mentioned.
