The coronavirus outbreak continues to claim lives in the country with 13 more patients succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health disclosed Wednesday that the latest covid fatalities were all captured as deaths reported after a review of facility record audits on diverse dates in the months of January, February, March, and June 2021.
The new figures now take the cumulative fatalities as a result of covid to 3,634.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 558 people tested positive from a sample size of 6,357 tested in the last 24 hours. This means the country’s positivity rate now stands at 8.8%.
“Total confirmed positive cases are now 184,161 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,959,701,” Kagwe said in a statement
At the same time, Kagwe disclosed that 1,114 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,644 patients are under the Home-Based Isolation & Care program.
“113 patient ICU, 34 of whom are on ventilatory support and 51 on supplemental oxygen. 28 patients are under observation.” He said
He added that “120 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 113 of them in general wards and 17 in High Dependency Units.”
On a more positive note, 296 patients have recovered. Out of these, 229 were on the Home Based & Isolation Care program while 67 had been admitted to various health facilities.
Total recoveries now stand at 125,684 out of who 90,998 are from the Home-Based Care & Isolation program, while 34,686 are from various health facilities.
At the same time, the ministry of health disclosed that as of Wednesday, a total of 1,378,585 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 1,008,120 while the second doses are 370,465.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 36.7% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.42%
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 115,078, Others 99,211, Health Workers 79,686, Teachers 48,572 while Security Officers are at 27,918.
