Covid: 1,183 test positive as 32 succumb

1,183 people have tested positive for Covid-19, from a sample size of 8,144 tested in the last 24 hours bringing total confirmed positive cases to 213,756.

The positivity rate is now 14.5%, while cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,205,159.

Out of the new cases rom the cases 1,123 are Kenyans while 60 are foreigners.

593 females while 590 are males. The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 98 years.

1,318 patients have recovered from the disease with 1,212 from Home-Based Isolation and Care while 106 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 198,786 out of which 159,273 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 39,513 are from various health facilities.

32 patients have succumbed to the disease, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while 31 are late deaths cumulative fatalities to 4,211.

New deaths by age; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (0), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (7), 60 years and above (23).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (57), 10-19 years (31), 20- 29 (125), 30-39 years (327), 40-49 years (490), 50-59 years (832), 60 years and above (2,349).

A total of 1,827 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 8,529 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

135 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 60 of whom are on ventilatory support and 68 on supplemental oxygen with 7 under observation.

Another 609 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 573 of them in general wards and 36 in High Dependency Units (HDU).


As of August 9th, 2021, a total of 1,842,342 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, total first doses are 1,131,631 while second doses are 710,711. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 62.8% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%.

Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.6%.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 218,498, Others 209,400, Health Workers 121,516, Teachers 104,000 while Security Officers are at 57,297.
