Crime of passion: Langata beauty queen sentenced to death

Miss Lang’ata beauty queen  Ruth Kamande has been sentenced to death for killing her boyfriend Farid Mohammed in 2015.

High Court judge Jessie Lesiit ruled that Kamande was calculative in her stabbing and had shown no remorse.

Ms. Kamande grabbed the hearts of many after she won the Miss Langata Prison pageant in 2016.

Justice Lesiit in May ruled that Ruth Kamande, 25, killed Farid Mohammed in cold blood after stabbing him 25 times following a domestic dispute in Buru Buru estate, Nairobi county.

She stabbed her boyfriend over a love text message sent by another woman.

Last week Ms Kamande regretted here actions when she asked the court to forgive her.

The judge said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt adding that she had malice afterthought.

“Stabs were not at ago, they were done in an interval. This is clear from the prosecution evidence,” Lesiit said.

Last week Ms. Kamande regretted her actions when she asked the court to forgive her.

In her mitigation, she expressed her remorse about what happened to her leading to the death of her lover.

She regretted the incident, saying it was unintentional and since then, she has been engaged in various activities at Langat Women Prison remand.

Last year, she sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination at the prison and scored an A-. She is now a trained paralegal.
