CS Matiang’i fails to appear before Senate Committee

Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i has failed to appear before the Ad hoc Senate Committee investigating the Solai Dam tragedy that claimed 47 people.

The Senate committee led by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has consequently issued fresh summons to the Cabinet Secretary to appear and shed light on various concerns.

According to the fresh summons Matiang’i is required to appear before the adhoc committee tomorrow.

According to Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Patrick Ole Ntutu the CS failed to appear before the Senate Committee as he is held up in a meeting convened by the National Security Advisory Council.

Chairman of the ad hoc committee Mutula Kilonzo Junior maintained that Dr. Matiang’i should appear to make clarification in relation to his attacks against his committee when he addressed a meeting in Kisii County recently.

The adhoc committee initially wanted the CS to explain allegations relating to Nakuru County Commissioner who allegedly influenced the Solai dam tragedy victims to sign indemnity forms in favor for payouts from between Sh100,000 to Sh1 million.

Meanwhile Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko while relying on an inter agency report admitted some system failure in relation to management and operations of the dam.
