CS Sicily Kariuki resigns to vie for Nyandarua Governor seat

Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has resigned to join politics ahead of the August general election.

In press briefing on Wednesday at Maji House, Kariuki announced her resignation in line with the stipulated deadline to contest for the Nyandarua County gubernatorial seat.

“I leave Maji House with my head high moving out to contest for gubernatorial seat in Nyandarua,” she said

Kariuki said the decision comes after consultations with the people of Nyandarua who wish to have her expertise in the County leadership.

“I take home my transformational leadership experience which spans over 30 years. This follows months of listening to the people of Nyandarua and my development vision for the County,” she stated

She thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for according her the opportunity to serve Kenyans in the Ministry.

“Under my leadership we have achieved huge milestones in the sector; today in Tanariver over 3,000 acres of land in Bura irrigation scheme is currently under rice production, in west Pokot there is farming maize for the first time in the country. In Turkana vegetables and fruit are being grown and sold to neighboring counties,” she outlined

Kariuki said she is committed to working with like minded leaders in both the County and National government to address insecurity in the county.

She will compete for the position with the incumbent Governor Francis Kimemia and Speaker of the County Assembly Ndegwa Wahome among other contestants.
