Daniel Kiptoo Barogoria is now the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General until 2024 following his appointment which is effective 1st July 2021.
EPRA Board of Directors in consultation with the Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter made the announcement on Wednesday, confirming Kiptoo as Director General of the energy regulator.
“Mr. Kiptoo appointment follows a competitive recruitment process in which he emerged top. Prior to his appointment, Kiptoo was the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum and the Chairman of the Government’s first oil committee,” said Jackton Ojwang, EPRA Chairman.
Kiptoo was appointed as acting Director General on December 14th 2020 following the suspension of former boss Pavel Oimeke over graft allegations which subsequently saw him tender his resignation effective February 16th 2021.
Oimeke has since been elected Bonchari Member of Parliament.
Kiptoo has vast experience in the Energy and Petroleum sectors with bias in Policy Formulation, Regulation and Project and Structured Finance.
According to EPRA, Kiptoo was instrumental in drafting the Energy Act, 2019 and Petroleum Act, 2019.
