‘Death toll at Westlands wall collapse rises to four

Four people have now been confirmed dead while ten others were injured following the collapse of a wall along General Mathenge Road in Westlands Nairobi.

The wall whose construction was completed collapsed on Thursday at around 1 PM.

Housing Principal Secretary Aidah Munanu has directed that the building under construction be halted until the government satisfies the safety reports of the building.

She announced that all constructions within Westlands whose excavation is below six metres be discontinued until there is satisfaction that all safety standards have been taken care off.

Munanu called on National Construction Authority to ensure that every construction site has a resident engineer whose mandate will be to confirm safety standards.

The PS said the Government in partnership with relevant institutions is working on measure that will ensure that construction sites are safe.
