Del Monte Kenya refutes water contamination claims

Del Monte Kenya Limited (DMKL) has refuted claims by a section of the media, that its water sources are contaminated.

The company says it has put in place quality mechanisms for treatment of water and identifying potential hazards during production processes.

“DMKL has several water dams, reservoirs and ponds for harvesting and storing rain water, only 13% of Del Monte’s pineapple plantations depends on overhead irrigation using water from Athi River,” read part of a statement.

They said they have a regime for heavy metal and pesticides residue analysis done regularly on produce from all fields that are harvested.
