Democratic Party Nyanza branches endorse Muturi presidential bid

The Democratic Party (DP) that recently endorsed the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi as its presidential candidate in 2022, Thursday unveiled his campaign in Kisii and the former south Nyanza regions.

DP officials from Kisii region, where the party founder and former President Mwai Kibaki enjoyed impressive support in his 1992 and 1997 presidential bid, said Muturi had leadership credentials similar to Kibaki’s and appealed to the region to support him.

“Muturi has promised to revive some of the forgotten economic policies that made the economy thrive during the era of President Kibaki,” said the leaders in a press statement that they read jointly in a Kisii hotel.

The regional party chairpersons were drawn from the counties of Kisii (Elijah Bwoke), Nyamira (Fredrick Mutio), Migori Angelina Boke), and Homa Bay (Joseph Ogutu).

They said Muturi had demonstrated integrity and commitment to offer responsible leadership, during his two terms as the Speaker of the National Assembly, and promised to campaign vigorously for him in the region.

“In endorsing Hon. Muturi, the party has taken cognisance of the fact that DP’s first presidential candidate, retired President Mwai Kibaki, ran on a platform of integrity, justice and truth. The Speaker, in launching his presidential bid, has said that he will run his campaign on the same ideals while espousing order in our society,” read the statement.

They called upon Muturi to unleash a nationwide campaign and give the DP a chance to form the next government.
