Don’t employ underage children, Narok CID Boss warns

Narok County CID Boss Zachary Kariuki has warned those employing young underage children in clubs and restaurant saying they will be prosecuted.

Kariuki says his officers will conduct a crackdown in the County on the same and ensure they arrest the employers.

He says it’s unfortunate that business people are taking advantage of children who should be in school.

Kariuki was speaking in his office where he narrated how he meet 17 years old girl Mercy Njeri who was a waiter at one of the club in Narok on Wednesday.

He says he encountered the girl while having a drink with a friend saying when she served them, he was immediately curious on her age.

The girl would later reveal that indeed she was underage but told the CID boss that she had sought employment to support her mother raise school fees.

She said was a student at St Michael secondary in Gatundu Kiambu County and had a deficit of Ksh. 8 shillings.

Kariuki managed to get her the cash to pay the school fees before later getting a welling wisher who has agreed to continue paying her school fees.

The CID boss however says such girls are vulnerable to sex abuse and shouldn’t even be exposed to alcohol at such a young age.

He has since warned Parents as well as those employing underage children that they will be arrested and prosecuted.

He says all school going children must be given an opportunity to complete their studies before seeking employment.
