DPP approves prosecution of cop over shooting of 13 year old

The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved the arrest and prosecution of a police officer, Duncan Ndiema Ndiwah.

The police officer is linked to the fatal shooting of Yasin Moyo at the balcony of their  home in Huruma in March 30.

The 13-year-old on the fateful day was standing at the balcony watching police patrol the streets during the implementation of a coronavirus-related curfew.

He was together with his mother and siblings when a stray bullet struck him in the stomach.

His father, Hussein Moyo Molte, who was at a nearby friend’s place watching the news recounted hearing gunshots moments before his daughter called to tell him.

Efforts by neighbors who drove young Yassin Moyo to a Nairobi hospital did not yield much as he later succumbed to his injuries.

Kenya’s dusk-to-dawn curfew was effected nationwide on March 27 in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Tuesday, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) revealed that 15 Kenyans have been killed by police officers since March 27.
