A day after former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Mumbi Waiguru linked national Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale and Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to the loss of 791 million shillings at the National Youth Service, the two have dismissed the claims.
The duo are now challenging the former CS to produce evidence to back her allegations.
Addressing journalist in Nairobi, Senator Murkomen said the affidavit by Waiguru is an afterthought aimed at diverting attention.
Senator Murkomen urged the former CS not to resort to diversionary tactics, pitting the coalition partners against each other.
Duale on the other hand said the claims by Waiguru are a weak attempt to rock the Jubilee coalition. Duale said the allegations are aimed at dividing the Jubilee government along party lines.
He maintained that the Jubilee coalition is solid and nobody can rock it from within.
The Garissa Town Member of Parliament also said he has resolved to take what he termed as a sabbatical leave that will see him keep off Kericho and Malindi by-election campaigns in order to deal with the latest allegations contained in a sworn affidavit filed by Waiguru.
Meanwhile, Nandi hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter is now calling on Duale and Murkomen to step aside to pave way for a probe into the 791 million shillings NYS scam.
In a press briefing held at Parliament buildings Wednesday the legislator said the two who were mentioned by former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Monday in her affidavit should quit until proven innocent.
Waiguru implicated the two in the NYS scandal where she accused them of threatening her and former NYS Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe, since suspended, in an attempt to cover up the theft of NYS millions through dubious means.
Keter has been vocal on the NYS scam, calling for thorough investigations and prosecution of those found culpable.
In October last year the legislator claimed that several MPs were involved in the scam.
Elsewhere, NYS scandal has now taken a political dimension with an affidavit sworn by Waiguru sucking in key politicians in the United Republican Party of the jubilee wing.
According to Waiguru , Duale and Murkomen allegedly threaten her to release frozen funds belonging to some people allegedly involved in the scandal.
Other names cropping up in the latest release are Deputy President William Ruto’s younger brother Luke Kimutai Samoei and Nandi Hills legislator Alfred Keter, who was so vocal on Waiguru’s resignation calls.
The drama began Tuesday last week after the office of the Director of Public Prosecution released names of 11 individuals whom it said should be prosecuted in connection with the theft of 791 million shillings in the National youth Service.
The eleven suspects include 31-year old businessman Benson Gethii Wangui his mother Charity Wangui Gethi and his sister Jedidah Wangari Wangui, Josephine Kabura Irungu a Nairobi hairdresser, John Kago Ndung’u, a driver at KCB and Samuel Wacheje alias Sam Mwadime.
Others are lawyer Patrick Onyango Ogola, Antony Gethii Kihara, Paul Kinuthi Gachoka, John Hope Vandamme and Martin Gachara Wanjohi.
But even before the ink on DPP’s directive dried, one of the suspects Josephine Kabura Irungu, the said Nairobi hairdresser sprang into action. Armed with an affidavit, Kabura incriminated Waiguru claiming she was the chief architect of the NYS scam. EACC had cleared Waiguru of the said allegations.
Exit the hairdresser enters Waiguru with an equal but an upgraded affidavit, this time round implicating several senior political actors in the play including Majority Leader in the national assembly Adan Duale and Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
Waiguru claims the two threatened her to release frozen funds belonging to some people involved in the fraud.
Waiguru goes ahead to name one Luke Kimutai Samoei, Deputy President William Ruto’s younger brother as among people who accompanied Murkomen to then NYS deputy director general’s office Adan Harakhe to demand the release of the frozen funds.
Waiguru further claims that her effort to resist the Murkomen and Duale axis scheme was met with a UPR sponsored censor motion against her in the national assembly and pushed by Nandi Hills legislator Alfred Keter.
Another figure in Waiguru’s sworn affidavit is that of Ruto’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet, who she claims was closely, associated with Ben Gethi the business man at the centre of the NYS scam.
