Edith Nyenze clinches Wiper ticket

Edith Nyenze is the Wiper Party nominee for the Kitui West parliamentary by-elections.

Edith, the widow of the immediate former MP the late Francis Nyenze garnered 13,388 votes against her rival Maluki Mwendwa who managed 2,663 votes in the hotly contested primaries.

Voter turnout was pegged at 16, 000 representing 31% of the 52, 000 registered voters in the constituency.

The results were announced at Maendeleo Multipurpose Hall at Matinyani market at about 11pm on Thursday by the constituency returning officer Francis Kivindu.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of the immediate former MP Francis Nyenze.

Vethi who is banking on the cordial relationship her late husband had with constituents is confident of winning the by-election.

She thanked God and her supporters for the landslide victory and also extended an olive branch to her competitor saying time has come for the two leaders to push for a common cause of championing for the Wiper Party and ensure a massive victory in March mini election.

She will now face off with eight other candidates in the by-election scheduled for March 26th this year.
