Eight players are in the running for sh 1 million and a 42 inch LG television set after being nominated for most valuable player category in the 2015 KPL/SJAK Footballer of the Year Awards.
Gor Mahia trio Micheal Olunga,Meddie Kagere and Karim Nzingiyimana will fight it out with 2015 KPL top scorer Jesse Wereh of Tusker and four others for biggest cash award ever given in Kenya’s sporting arena.
The 8 were whittled down from a wider list of 34 players nominated by SPL coaches and sports journalists.
The number is expected to be reduced to 5 early December before the FOYA Gala slated for 9th December reveals the eventual winner.Runners up and second runners up in the MVP category have been shortlisted as explained by KPL Operations, Liaison and logistics officer Frank Okoth.
According to SJAK Chairman Chris Mbaisi, the coaches sent in their nominations, top eight each, as well as the SJAK football committee members after which all the nominations were sieved through and with data from KPL on matches played, goals scored, clean sheets kept and disciplinary records.
