14 people perish in Kisumu accident

By KBC Reporter

The number of people killed following a grisly road accident along Katito-Pap Onditi road has risen to 14 after three more people died while undergoing treatment at the Nyabondo Mission Hospital in Kisumu.

Four more victims are receiving treatment at the same facility where they were rushed for treatment after the Thursday morning tragedy.

The accident occurred after a 14 seater matatu they were traveling in was involved in an accident.

Amongst the dead include a family of three that had just boarded the matatu 6 kilometers away, from the accident scene.

Area OCPD Henry Maloba said the accident occurred after the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car before plunging into a culvert downhill.

Kisumu County Commissioner, Mohammed Maalim, said investigations have been launched after it also emerged that the vehicle was overloaded.

Maalim has cautioned motorists to observe traffic rules to avoid causing deaths on the road.
