The latest survey by Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) Research firm indicates that Azimio la Umoja Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga still commands majority support in the counties of Nairobi and Mombasa.
In an opinion poll conducted in April, the TIFA Counties survey shows that Raila currently has the support of 41 percent of the Nairobi electorate compared to 26 percent support enjoyed by Deputy President William Ruto.
In Mombasa, the agency disclosed that Raila has 50% support of the Coastal county residents whereas his main challenger Ruto will garner 32% of the vote if elections were held today.
As to who is the most preferred governor aspirants in the two counties, Abdulswamad Sharrif (ODM) has a 40% support compared to Mike Sonko’s (Wiper) 28% in Mombasa, while Johnson Sakaja of UDA currently leads Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee in Nairobi with 23% and 15% support respectively.
According to the poll, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition enjoys 41% support in the country’s capital while Kenya Kwanza is backed by 22% of the city’s electorate.
The counties’ poll had been commissioned with an overall objective to assess the political landscape in Nairobi, Makueni, and Mombasa counties.
