The high court issues warrant of arrest against DCI boss Kinoti

The High Court in Milimani has issued a warrant of arrest against Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti.

The order was issued on 14th December 2021 by the deputy registrar in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai, directing that Kinoti be arrested and presented in court to face contempt of court charges and to be further dealt with according to the law. The directive is pursuant to an order issued by justice Chaacha Mwita on 21st June who had ordered the DCI boss to return several firearms belonging to businessman cum politician, Jimmy Wanjigi. Kinoti was later sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of court after failing to comply with the court orders. He was required to surrender to the Kamiti maximum security prison in a week to start his sentence which he has not honored to date.

Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki in a rejoinder has since filed an application seeking to suspend the sentence pending the hearing and decision of his petition. The AG had argued that the court had erred in its ruling claiming it was the Firearms Licensing Board which was the custodian of firearms and not the DCI.
