Thousands of Covid-19 vaccines have expired in the country

Close to 840,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses in the country have expired.

Adressing the press this morning at Afya house in Nairobi, Health Chief administrative secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said every county has some expiries, with the highest being Nakuru at 35,000 doses. Dr. Mwangangi said the lifting of some Covid 19 protocals in the country led to complacency among Kenyans, causing the loss of the doses. Mwangangi called on county governments to do all they can to ensure that all vaccines in their facilities are administered. She also said going forward, Kenya will only accept donations of Covid-19 vaccines whose shelf life is 4 months; noting that the country may not be able to utilize all the vaccines before their expiration dates.
