Ezekiel Kemboi named Kenya’s Rio Olympics squad captain

World 3000m steeplechase Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi has been handed the role again to lead Kenya’s Rio Olympics squad as the overall captain.

Kemboi who led the Kenyan squad to win the World title in Beijing last year chalked an unprecedented fourth consecutive victory at the Worlds after the 2009 Berlin Germany, 2011 Daegu in Korea and 2013 Moscow, Russia.

Fifty two athletes were selected to represent Kenya after the conclusion of the national trials that were held at Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret last week.

At the last edition of the Olympic Games in London, the country only managed to win two gold medals through David Rudisha, who won the 800 metres race in a world record time of one minute, 40:91 seconds, and Ezekiel Kemboi, who won the men’s 3,000 metres steeplechase.
