Farmers in Kiambu County get training on best agricultural practices

The Kiambu County Government and the Alliance for the Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) have embarked on distribution of high yielding seeds in the county.

Kiambu County Deputy Governor James Nyoro says farmers will be provided with seeds suited for various climatic conditions to ensure productivity

Kiambu has seen a decrease in agricultural land in recent years as most of the arable land has used for real estate development.

In a bid to reverse the trend, Kiambu County Government and AGRA have started a seed distribution project to encourage farmers to venture more into farming.

The farmers in the county will get free high yielding and fast maturing seeds for various crops.

Nyoro says the county will embrace technology to boost food production to carter for the fast growing population.

Arid and semi arid areas in the county will get fast maturing seeds that will only take 90 days to mature while dairy farmers will get high yielding seeds for cattle feeds.

The county government is also in talks with the agro vets to release chemicals to farmers early enough to combat the spread of the fall army worm.

Farmers are also being trained by AGRA on best agricultural practices.
