World Radio Day, is set aside to celebrated the power of radio as a medium of communication.
On the 3rd November 2011 during its 36th general conference United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO proclaimed February 13 as World Radio Day.
The day is an occasion to draw attention to the unique value of radio, which remains the most ideal medium to reach the widest audience as it evolves in the digital era.
This year, the World Radio Day theme is Radio in Times of Emergency and Disaster. Those working in radio broadcasting attest that it is medium with unique thrills not enjoyed by other media platforms.
The objective of World Radio Day is to raise greater awareness among the public and the media of the importance of radio, To encourage decision makers to establish and provide access to information through radio and to enhance networking and international cooperation among broadcasters.
