Fire brigade urges Govt to invest more in disaster management

The National and County Governments have been urged to support fire and disaster departments by improving their welfare to enhance service delivery.

Speaking to fire fighters during the national inter county fire fighters symposium held at Murang’a Ihura Stadium, Kenya National Fire Brigade Association Sec Gen Francis Omollo said disaster management departments have for a long time been forgotten yet are very crucial in the day to day running of Counties.

He pleaded with the two levels of Government to channel funds to the respective departments saying they need funds in the duty to ensure safety and welfare of the people.

Omollo urged the government to enroll all fire fighters to a lifetime insurance taking into consideration the nature of their occupation.

Murang’a County Fire and Disaster Management manager Bilha Wanjiku praised the Kenya Council of Emergency Medical and Technicians for convening the forum saying it will provide them will a platform to channel their concerns.

She further added that there is need for civic education on the role of fire fighters and called on the public to support them in their day to day work.

The director of Africa Fire Mission, Davies Moore said that they will continue to work in partnership with the local and national government in pulling up resources and expertise to assist in building of strong disaster management departments.
