First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will Thursday officially open the 4th Turkana County Cultural and Tourism Festival, popularly known as Tobong’u Lore which means welcome back home.
The event whose aim is to showcase the Turkana rich cultural heritage is also geared towards fostering inter-community peace and unity.
The event, which will show case, various activities including a marathon, will be graced by delegations from the neighboring countries of Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia.
The festival which began in 2014 features dances, traditional regalia, songs, foods and various aspects of Turkana lifestyle.
20,000 delegates including nine Governors and leaders from across the country are expected to attend the three-day cultural event.
According to Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, the event is also aimed at promoting the county as a cradle of mankind where the first man lived.
“ We are coming to celebrate peace, unity and people returning home as portrayed by this event that this is where the first man lived,” said the Governor at a press briefing in his office Wednesday ahead of the official opening Thursday.
