Five injured in Ruiru train accident

Five people were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after a cargo train rammed into a bus in Ruiru.

Eye witnesses say the accident happened after the driver of the 46-seater bus underestimated the speed of the train at a railway crossing.

The 46 seater bus belonging to Tulaga PSV Sacco is said to have been speeding when the driver under estimated the distance of the on-coming train. It is then that the train hit the bus pushing it 20 meters along the railway line.

Meanwhile, one of the two school children who survived a fatal accident in Kisumu Tuesday has succumbed to her injuries bringing the number of fatalities to six.

The victim who was admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga referral hospital died while doctors were trying to save her life last evening.

A somber mood engulfed the health facility as friends and relative visited the hospital to identify the bodies of their kin.

The accident happened along the Ahero-Awasi road when a speeding personal car swerved off the road hitting a group of children from nearby ECD centre who were headed for their homes killing 5 on the spot.
