Five suspects charged with the murder of former Kilifi DG

Five suspects arrested in connection to the murder of former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto have been charged with nine counts among them robbery with violence. 

The accused Julius Gitonga, Joseph Amwayi, Florence Mwanza, Joseph Shoi and Clementina Nerima appeared before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Henry Nyakweba where they denied the charges and two of them were released on bond.

The suspects were charged with nine counts of robbery with violence, being in possession of fire arm and ammunition without licence, and handling stolen goods.

They are charged that on December 12 last year, jointly with others not before court, while armed with a pistol, stole three mobile phones valued at Sh 28,000 belonging to Kamto.

The suspects were also charged with violently stealing from a Chinese national Adnan Chi Tung while Gitonga, Mwanzia, Shoi were separately slapped with additional charges of handling stolen goods.

The magistrate ordered that Gitonga, Amwayi, Mwanza be detained at the Shimo la Tewa prison while Shoi and Nerima were released on a bond of Sh200,000 each and a surety of the same amount.

The case will be mentioned on February 4.
