Flash floods wreak havoc in Kajiado county

Flash floods have wreaked havoc in Partimaro village in Kajiado Central, Kajiado County.

A motor vehicle has been swept away and bridges cut off paralyzing transport in the area.

Effects of rains in the wake of a long dry spell are being felt in many parts of the vast Kajiado County.

A motorist was almost swept away as he tried to cross Partmaro River that had burst her banks.

Kajiado Central Deputy County Commissioner Charles Wambugu cautioned residents against crossing flooded rivers to avoid calamity.

Wambugu said most valleys have transformed into seasonal rivers which are now dangerous to both human and livestock.

Residents claim the cost of living has become unbearable as local traders have hiked the prices of basic commodities  after bridges on Partimaro River swept away cutting them off from Ilbisil and Kajiado towns.

Last year, seven people were killed by floods in different parts of Kajiado County including Kiserian and Ong’ata Rongai towns.
