Three dead, dozens injured after floods sweep through West Pokot

Dozens have been displaced by floods in Ol joro Orok area of Nyandarua county. Locals claim they were forced to spend the night in the cold after their houses flooded.

The source of the flood water still remains a mystery.

Boda boda riders took the advantage to rip big as they utilized the opportunity to ferry residents who are fleeing their homes for fear of floods.

The irate residents stated that for several months they have been calling on the local leaders to come to their rescue and ensure the drainage is improved but this has fallen on deaf ears.

They say the source of the floods is yet to be established and fear that a dam could be leaking upstream.

Meanwhile, the collapse of a multi-million shillings dam in Ndaragwa area of Nyandarua County has left locals fuming at the construction works done by a contractor.

The affected residents expressed shock after the dam broke its banks just a few months after its commissioning.

The dam that was funded by the National Irrigation Board a cost of about 100 million shillings was only commissioned in March this year.

The construction of this dam was a welcome relief to residents in the Semi-arid area of Nyandarua whose lives depended on it.

Some of the locals expressed relief that no one was harmed after the dam collapsed.

They are however angry that the dam that was recently constructed erupted before they could fully reap its benefits.
