Former PS Lesiyampe declares he will run for Samburu governor’s seat

Former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Dr Richard Lesiyampe has declared his interest to contest for Samburu gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general elections.

Dr Lesiyampe said that he will use his education and leadership skills to find solutions to insecurity, hunger, poverty, and livestock challenges facing residents of Samburu County.

“I will bring development that will create job opportunities for our youth, I will ensure we have addressed hunger and poverty in our county,” he said.

Lesiyampe’s bid was endorsed by a section of clan elders.

“We have not backed him because of his clan. We are looking for a leader who will stand with us and lead us in the right direction,” said one of the elders.

Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshoomo hailed Lesiyampe’s endorsement saying it was a gesture of unity across the county.

Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal and Samburu North Alois Lentoimaga were among the leaders who witnessed the ceremony.

Dr Lesiyampe pledged to foster peace and unity among residents with the sole aim of improving their lives.

“That will be an engine of creating wealth for our people and eradicating poverty,” he said.
