Garissa residents have reason to smile after Freedom airlines Wednesday launched daily flights to Garissa
The airlines Manager Shallow Abukar said that following the growing demand for air travel and request from the customers prompted the company to increase the flights. They operate a 50 seater plane.
The company also operates similar flights to and from Wajir, Mandera, Eldoret, Mombasa, Moyale, Takaba, Elwak and major towns in neighbouring Somalia.
Garissa speaker Ibrahim Abass who was accompanying MCAs from the assembly to a meeting in Nairobi Wednesday said the flight was not only convenient but cheaper than traveling by road.
“Under normal circumstances we could have travelled yesterday road and spend the night in Nairobi. The MCAs could have been paid an extra night out leave alone the cost of fuel,” Abass said.
Garissa MCA Hussein Borle expressed his delight at the decision by the airline’s to increase the flights adding that it was more convenient for him because of his disability.
“Traveling by air to Nairobi takes less than one hour while by road is more than 6 hours. For me I have to hire and pay for a drive because of my condition. We are very happy,” Hussein said.
