Gakuyo surrenders to police over Ekeza Sacco

Embattled real estate tycoon Bishop David Kariuki Ngari, popularly known as Gakuyo, has presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in connection with misappropriation of 1.5 billion shillings belonging to Ekeza Sacco.

Through his lawyers the former founder and chairman of the credit society however claimed detectives have so far found no grounds linking him to the scam.

After he was through with the detectives, the business mogul through his lawyers absolved himself from any wrong doing in the mismanagement of the said funds.

He further claimed that most of the allegations leveled against him were a creation of social media.

Gakuyo is said to have been evading authorities following revelations that he transferred the money from the Sacco to his personal account.

Gakuyo has in the meanwhile, resigned as the economic advisor to Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.

On Wednesday, the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i made it clear that Ekeza Sacco’s embezzlement scandal would be investigated.

“Rogue officials mismanaging funds in the co-operative movement will be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations,” said the CS
