German national charged with child trafficking and defilement

A German national was Tuesday arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts and charged with child trafficking and defilement.

71-year-old Thomas Scheller was charged with two counts of indecent acts with a child and three counts of pornography.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to all the charges but was denied bond until a children’s report is brought to court by the 19th of June.

On its Twitter handle, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed that its officers from the Child Protection Unit arrested Scheller on 4th May 2020 and rescued a minor aged 14 at riverside drive 113 near Germany Embassy.

According to DCI, the suspect had been lodging at Sammarays guest house with the minor since their arrival from Kisumu County on 30th April 2020 despite the lockdown in Nairobi.

The suspect will remain in custody after the court granted investigators 21 days to conclude investigations.

The minor is in safe custody.
