Glovo, Naivas subsidize home deliveries in COVID-19 wake

Glovo has announced a partnership with Naivas Supermarkets to provide free deliveries in the wake of the Covid 19 Global Pandemic.

The partnership will see Glovo offer free deliveries for orders above Ksh.1,000 from Saturday 21 March to Sunday 29 March 2020.

However, a flat rate delivery fee of Ksh.100 will apply on deliveries above Ksh.1,000 from Monday 30 April to Sunday 19 April.

The move is in compliance with the government directive to limit public gatherings and crowding in stores as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the chain store said in a statement to the media.

“In order to comply with the Ministry of Health directive to retailers to manage their shopper populations to reduce grouping and crowding, we expect that Kenyans will take to online shopping much faster and more,” said Willy Kimani, Chief Commercial Office of Naivas.

In this arrangement, shoppers are encouraged to shop online and have their items delivered by Glovo, hence reduce the need for in-store visits.

Shoppers visiting the stores will be required to follow the six-feet rule of thumb; ensuring each person is at least six feet away from the closest fellow shopper at all times.

Naivas joins Tuskys supermarket that also rolled out home delivery in partnership with technology delivery firm Sendy.

Glovo is a technology company that links motorcycle riders to consumers wishing to buy and deliver products.
