Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has acknowledged that his side was not at its best against Kariobangi Sharks last weekend, as the Kenyan Champions were eliminated from the Sportpesa Shield tournament through post-match penalties.
It is the 4th year in a row that K’Ogallo will not feature in the domestic cup final.
It has recently not been the best of times for Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia, since securing a record 17th Kenya Premier League title with a win against arch rivals AFC Leopards on the 25th of last month.
The milestone however has been foreshadowed by two consecutive losses; first to Algerian Side USM Alger, a loss that saw them get knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup tournament, and a loss against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday that ensured they would not qualify for the Sportpesa Shield semi-finals.
Last year, the Green Army bid farewell to the competition in the same manner at the hands of Bandari FC, and to Nzoia united the year before that. In 2015, it was Nakumatt who edged the champions on penalties.
Gor will have to wait for a chance to redeem itself as their League clash against Zoo Kericho, which was scheduled for this Wednesday, has been postponed to a later date.
K’Ogallo is 7 points ahead of 2nd placed Bandari FC, which emerged 1-0 winners over Sony Sugar Sunday.
The result boosted the Coast Based side’s chances of finishing second on the log with five games to go.
AFC Leopards is 3rd on the log on 48 points. A point ahead of Sofapaka, while Ulinzi Stars complete the Top 5 teams with 44 points.
