Gor Mahia beat Nakumatt 2-0 to go top with a game in hand

By Fredrick Muoki-After going for four matches without a win, 15 times Sportpesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC will kick off the second leg of the season on top of the log on 31 points after 16 matches, thanks to their 2-0 victory over Nakumatt FC on Sunday.

It has been an awful run for the 2015 Sportpesa Premier League champions, losing one and drawing three of their last four league games.

However, their win over 10th placed Nakumatt FC saw them go above defending champions Tusker FC, who now lie 4th, after being held to a one all draw by 2nd placed Posta Rangers.

Tusker is level on points with Ulinzi Stars, whose loss against 11th placed Nzoia Sugar leaves them at position three.

Kariobangi Sharks’s draw against 12th placed Zoo Kericho sees them remain 5th on 27 points, two better than Sofapaka who drew 1-1 with 16th paced Muhoroni Youth, and coast based side Bandari who beat 14th placed Sony Sugar in the first match of round seventeen.

Kakamega Homeboyz are 8th after being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom placed Mathare United, with Chemelil Sugar taking the 9th position after their goalless draw against Thika United who sit 17th on the log.

AFC Leopards’ turbulent season continues, as their loss against 15th placed Western Stima to remain at position 13th on the log.
