Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia maintained their unbeaten run in the League, as they once again exerted dominance over their arch rivals AFC Leopards, winning 2-1 in a match played at the Kasarani Stadium.
In what is always the most anticipated fixture of the Kenya Premier League calender, Gor Mahia claimed the bragging rights in the 85th Mashemeji Derby, beating AFC Leopards 2-1 at the Kasarani Stadium.
A defensive error by the Leopards gifted Kogalo their opening goal which was scored by the alert Jacques Tuyisenge in the 22nd minute.
But that lead could not last until halftime as Whyvonne Isuza levelled just before the break.
Leopards were again found napping earlier in the second half as George Odhiambo restored Gor Mahia’s lead which they defended until the final whistle.
Gor Mahia now lead the table on 52 points, 12 above second-placed Sofapaka and 15 points above Ulinzi Stars who are third. AFC Leopards are 5th, tied on 36 points with 4th placed Bandari FC.
Elsewhere, Sofapaka stormed are in the last eight of the 2018 SportPesa Shield, after the 2009 KPL champions thrashed Western Stima 4-1 in a last 16 clash played at the Narok Stadium this afternoon. Goals from Elly Asieche, Brian Magonya, Stephen Waruru and an own goal from Junior Mukisa secured the win for John Baraza’s men with Kevin Okoth grabbing the consolation for Western Stima.
Meanwhile, Tusker FC also progressed to the quarters after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Bungoma Superstars, courtesy of substitute Peter Nzuki.
