Defending champions Gor Mahia FC have taken control of the Kenyan Premier League after the 5th round of matches played over the weekend.
Gor Mahia, unbeaten, and set to play Tunisia’s Esperance in the CAF Champions League this Wednesday, replaced Mathare United at the top of the table following their win over Bandari FC on Saturday.
Even with a crucial CAF Champions League match against Esperance nearing, Gor Mahia were not distracted in their quest to retain the Kenyan Premier League title as they recorded their 4th win of the 2018 season on Saturday.
Kogalo, who face Esperance in the first leg of the Champions League this Wednesday at the Machakos County stadium, were unmatched against Bandari as they scored two goals to move to the top of the table on 13 points.
The side takes charge from Mathare United who have been at the helm for some time. Kogalo and Mathare are the only two sides yet to lose a match this season but Gor Mahia’s four wins and one draw betters Mathare United’s record of three wins and two draws.
These two unbeaten sides are followed by Sofapaka who are third on nine points, while Kariobangi Sharks, Chemelil Sugar and Bandari sit in 4th to 6th positions on 8 points each.
AFC Leopards, Ulinzi Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz and Sony Sugar wrap the 10 best sides in positions 7 to 10 on seven points each.
At the bottom of the table are Nzoia Sugar, Thika United, Vihiga United and Zoo Kericho who are lined up from positions 15 to 18 respectively, on three points each.
