Governor Mutua escapes death narrowly as bridge collapses

The Machakos governor is in Kisii and has been touring various development projects in the county.

Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi had a scare earlier Friday after a bridge they were standing on collapsed.

The two are said to have been inspecting a bridge at River Kuja in Ogembo when the incident happened.

Three journalists who were accompanying the two are said to have fallen off the bridge into the raging waters and were rushed to Kisii teaching and referral hospital.

After the incident, Dr Mutua took to his twitter account to make light of the mishap.

“It is God’s hand at work because it is clear that the bridge would have collapsed anytime soon. By giving way while Government officials were there it means that lives that could have been lost later today or tomorrow were spared” he tweeted.

He added “I thank God for using my visit to save many lives that could have been lost when unsuspecting mothers and children walked on the bridge. As the saying goes, God works in a mysterious way”.

After the incident, the two leaders held a rally in Gucha town where they urged the electoral body IEBC to ensure that Kenyans in the diaspora vote in the next elections.
