Governor says Kisumu ready for Madaraka Day celebrations

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o says preparations of the upcoming Madaraka Day scheduled to be celebrated in Kisumu and to be graced by the President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga are complete.

Nyong’o said that the ceremony scheduled for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga sports ground in Mamboleo Kisumu will present a golden opportunity for the economy of Kisumu to benefit within the sectors directly engaged in the preparations.

The governor noted that work on the roads from the Kisumu town center is ongoing in efforts to upgrade it to standards convenient to the expected visitors.

“We have unprecedented luck because Kisumu town will be completely spruced up due to the President’s visit but the most important thing is that we will be hosting high caliber visitors who have been landing in this town since two weeks ago with many visitors flocking from as far as Nairobi and of course you understand the economic significance of this for our city,” said Nyong’o.

The governor noted that most of the major hotels in Kisumu city are already fully booked saying this meant good business not only for the taxi businesses in Kisumu but also for the boda boda riders.

The Governor thanked the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga together with the president for honoring a promise they made to the people of Kisumu at a yacht club promising that one of the national celebrations would be slated for the city.

Nyong’o announced that the County of Kisumu will install two huge screens at Kirende and Raila ground from where the residents who will not get an opportunity to access the stadium will be able to follow the proceedings with compliance to the Covid-19 regulations.
