The government has begun a water project that will supply water to the industrial park intended to be constructed in Naivasha in Nakuru County.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui says the water which will be sourced from Kinja dam in Kinango, Nyandarua County will also benefit residents of Naivasha who have had to grapple with the high level of fluoride in their water for many years.
Residents of Naivasha are optimistic after the County Government embarked on a water project that will see Naivasha town and its environs receive piped water from Kinja Dam in Kinagop, Nyandarua County.
Kinyanjui says the water will also mitigate the effects of excessive fluoride components in the current water sources.
The county had identified pyrethrum, potatoes, avocado and dairy as sectors that had high and untapped potential where farmers are being encouraged to diversify into avocado farming.
Plans are underway to hire and support agriculture extension officers across the county as well as opening of a 24-hour-call center where farmers will get free information regarding farm produce, fertilizers, pests and other agriculture information.
Works at the Industrial Park, which will leverage on the ongoing extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Nairobi to Naivasha, are set to commence by the end of the year.
