Local scientists say that no country has witnessed significant growth without research.

Dr. Hastings Ozwara of the Institute of Primate Research says lack of funding has provided an avenue for foreign agencies to utilize data from local scientists to develop their countries.

The national science week has provided local scientists with an opportunity to showcase their trade.

Trade which according to local researchers is just taking off and has the potential to grow.

But for this potential to be realized, a group of local researchers are calling for increased funding to the sector through budgetary allocation.

But why is this industry significant?

According to Dr Hastings Ozwara from the Institute of Primate Research, failure to support the industry financially has far reaching ramifications.

He says learning institutions should henceforth encourage students to embrace science based subjects.

The researchers are also recommending consolidation of science based institutions to reduce expenditure and direct funds to innovations and scientific projects.
