Senator Hassan Omar leads in new Mombasa opinion poll

A new opinion poll on the Mombasa county gubernatorial contest has placed Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar ahead of incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho.

According to the poll by Pambazuko Network Kenya, if elections were held in Mombasa County today, then Mr. Omar would not only trounce the incumbent, but also Jubilee front runner Suleiman Shahbal and Vibrant Democratic Party’s Hezron Awiti.

The survey, conducted between July 20th to 26th has Mr. Omar leading at 42% to Mr. Joho’s 33%.

Mr. Shahbal follows with 16% and Mr. Awiti at 7%.

All previous opinion polls by other organizations have placed the incumbent at the top with the closest contender being Jubilee’s Shahbal.

TIFA’s poll released on 31st July had Mr. Joho at 74%, with Suleiman Shahbal coming in second at 12% and Omar Hassan 3rd at 6%.

Infotrak’s polls from mild July have Governor Joho at 63% to Mr. Shahbal’s 15%. Mr. Omar polled at 4.8% and Mr. Awiti 3%.
