Heavy rains expected from Wednesday at the Kenyan Coast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall expected on the 24th of October, 2018 at the Kenyan Coast.

According to the weatherman, the rainfall is expected to begin at 30mm and is later expected to intensify to more than 40mm in 24hrs on Thursday 25th October 2018, along the south coast.

On Friday 26th October 2018, the rainfall intensity expected along the coast will decrease to 30mm in 24 hours.

These heavy rains will be accompanied by strong winds and large waves.

Counties expected to be affected include; Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu.

Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for flash floods.

People are also advised to driving, wading or walking through any fast-moving waters.

The heavy rains and strong winds offshore may result in a storm surge along the coast; hence fishermen and all in the marine industry should be on high alert.

“Continue listening to local media as updates will be provided if conditions change significantly. Further advisories will be issued as we follow upon the progress of this weather event,” the notice reads.
