Hundreds stranded as protesters block Narok-Maai Mahiu highway

Hundreds of motorists were left stranded at Suswa area along the Narok-Maai Mahiu highway after angry residents protested over the death of a 9-year-old girl.

The over 1000 locals held a night-long vigil at the scene guarding the dead girl’s body barricaded the road and accused the management of Kidong Ranch of digging deep trenches around the 78,000 ranch where the girl met her death on Tuesday evening.

According to the residents led by Kaza Roho Torome the girl was herding sheep and tried to rush home but found the road impassable due to the size of the trench.

She tried to jump over it but it was so wide and the soil was loose that covered and buried her alive.

Torome said the problem was brought about when the Kidong Ranch management agreed to dig trenches along the launch saying the management is also grabbing their land and they will not allow digging of trenches continue.

His sentiments were echoed by William Sipai who call the president to intervene and make sure the issue of Kidong has been solved since so many lives have been lost.

The road was opened after the Deputy County Commissioner Naivasha Kisiru Mutuku arrived with a contingent of anti-riot police.

Area MCA Kipasi Lengues called for calm saying that the matter will be investigated.
