The Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission IEBC has cleared the ODM candidate Willy Mtengo for the forthcoming Malindi parliamentary seat by-election.
Mtengo who was accompanied by Governors Amason Kingi and Hassan Joho was cleared to vie for the seat amid claims that his papers were not in order.
The ODM brigade that accompanied Mtengo expressed optimism the candidate would carry the day come March 7th.
Jubilee Alliance Party JAP candidate Phillip Charo has also been cleared paving the way for a battle for the seat.
National assembly majority leader Aden Duale led a contingent of Jubilee leaders in accompanying the candidate when he presented his papers.
At least 10 candidates are lined up for the duel to replace former MP Dan Kazungu who was elevated to a cabinet secretary by the Jubilee government.
Separately, cross section of leaders from Kiambu led by Senator Kimani wa Matangi want the judiciary to hasten the investigation of the case of the killers of the late former Kabete MP George Muchai.
Speaking during the late Mp’s Memorial service at ACK Kanyariri, Kiambu County, the leaders said it is now one year since Muchai was gunned down in Nairobi’s CBD Nairobi yet those behind the killing are yet to be convicted.
Muchai was shot together with two of his bodyguards and his driver on February 15th 2015. Seven people have already been charged in connection with the murder and are awaiting conviction.
